become a foster parent
The Nonie Krauss Foster Care Program helps pets who need extra care before being ready for adoption, or for pets to get a break from the shelter until they find their forever home. There are many animals who benefit from spending time in foster homes, including those who need training or socialization, animals in need of medical treatment, puppies and kittens too young for adoption, and moms with puppies or kittens.
After reviewing your application, the Foster Care Coordinator will contact you. Please allow 48-72 hours for your application to be considered for our next orientation session (you can choose either in-person or online). Please note, this program is not intended as a means to “foster-to-adopt.” If you are interested in adopting a pet for your family, click here to learn more about our adoption program.
Not able to foster right meow? You can still support the program!
- Donate to our emergency medical fund or foster program.
- Shop exclusive merchandise and look paw-dorable while helping save lives.

pawjama parties
Pawjama Parties are a special chance to give a shelter pet a break when they need it most. During holidays and severe weather, you can welcome a dog or cat into your home for a few days of comfort, calm, and care. Time away from the shelter can make a meaningful di>erence for animals—reducing stress, improving behavior, and giving pets a chance to truly relax and recharge. It’s a simple way to support their well-being while giving our team time to be with loved ones. If you can temporarily open your home to a shelter pet, we'll provide you with everything you need to make meaningful memories together!

Our foster families can choose how long they’d like to commit to fostering. This could be as short as an overnight stay, a weekend, a couple of weeks, or even until the animal is adopted! We also understand that life can change unexpectedly, so if circumstances arise, you’re always welcome to return your foster before your original commitment ends. Fostering is flexible. You can take breaks whenever you need, and we’ll welcome you back when you’re ready again.
Yes! We call this a “foster win”. If you fall in love and want to adopt, just let us know.
