Coronavirus/COVID-19

Our Michigan Road low-cost vaccine clinic is open by appointment only with new safety protocols in place.

The IndyHumane Downtown Clinic is scheduling spay/neuter surgeries with new procedures as well.

Our Michigan Road adoption center is closed to the public, but remains open for adoptions by appointment with approved online applications only. If you are interested in adopting, visit indyhumane.org/dogs or indyhumane.org/cats for up-to-date information on pets currently available for adoption. Each profile will contain a link to an online application. Please complete an application for the animal you are interested in, and a member of our team will contact you within 24-48 hours with more information and to set up an introduction for approved applicants within 3-5 days.

Infection prevention is something we practice every day at IndyHumane to keep both animals and humans safe, including frequent sanitation and deep cleaning of high-traffic areas. If you have a fever or feel ill, we do ask that you please stay home for your own health and the safety of our volunteers and staff.

In light of the Governor’s most recent Executive Order, and our commitment to fighting the spread of COVID-19, IndyHumane has implemented the following procedures in an effort to maintain a safe environment:

  • All workstations, keyboards, telephones, doorknobs, handles, light switches, desk supplies, countertops, and other “high-touch” surfaces will be cleaned regularly by employees. In-between cleanings, these surfaces will be wiped down with disposable wipes throughout the day, particularly after use.
  • All surfaces in exam rooms, stethoscopes and other tools will be cleaned between uses.
  • Employees will use Personal Protective Equipment (“PPE”) responsibly for all procedures where it is required and clean all reusable PPE regularly.

We ask that employees and patrons practice additional hygiene etiquette such as:

  • Washing hands for at least twenty seconds with soap and water regularly and thoroughly. In addition, we are providing hand sanitizer throughout the workplace for use between hand washings.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth, particularly with unwashed hands.
  • When coughing and sneezing, cover the mouth and nose (with a tissue, cough and sneeze into the sleeve or elbow – not hands) and turn away.
  • Refrain from shaking hands

IndyHumane requires all employees and patrons to follow the social distancing requirements established by the CDC, including maintaining six-foot social distancing for both employees and members of the general public when possible.  In addition:

  • All employees and patrons are required to wear face coverings while on the premises.
  • To assist in social distancing, whenever possible we will mark, designate or use barriers to facilitate six-foot distances throughout the workplace.
  • Restroom facilities will be closed to patrons.
  • For those instances in which the public is allowed into the building, limits will be placed on the number of patrons allowed at one time while still practicing social distancing.
  • Whenever possible, IndyHumane will utilize curbside or outside pick-up and drop-off services for patrons in order to minimize contact.
  • Any patron unwilling to following the safety protocols established by IndyHumane, including wearing of masks, will forfeit their right to receive services and be asked to leave the premises.

IndyHumane is Indy-based, independent, and donor-funded. Our lifesaving work for the animals of Indianapolis must continue, as it has for 115 years. We need your support more than ever as we see an increased need for our services throughout the community.

We are also in need of supplies to help keep our facility clean and our animals happy and healthy. You can order from our Amazon Wish Lists, or donate items with no-contact drop off to our Michigan Road adoption center. We appreciate your ongoing support during this time.
