Canine Animal Care Technician – Part Time

Responsible for day-to-day care and treatment of animals who are in IndyHumane’s care; will perform duties pertaining to kennel maintenance, custodial responsibilities, maintaining a disease-free environment, and animal enrichment and behavioral tasks. Interacts with the public and fellow staff (paid & volunteer), professionally and with exceptional customer service. Is expected to work safely and consistently with IndyHumane’s policies, procedures, beliefs, and mission statement.

Shelter Medicine Veterinarian

Position is responsible for the day-to-day evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation efforts of shelter animals in a fast-paced environment. IndyHumane has a full surgical suite with dentistry equipment, digital radiology, laboratory, isolation ward and full hospital capabilities.   Medical staff includes four Shelter Veterinarians (DVM), Medical Manager, Lead Surgical Technician (RVT), and six to eight Veterinary Technicians/Assistants at our Michigan Road location; up to two Shelter Veterinarians, two Surgery Leads and five to six Technicians/Assistants at our Downtown low cost Spay/Neuter Clinic. Role is 40 hours per week, some weekends, no overnight or “on call” time.

Shelter Veterinary Technician or Assistant

Position is responsible for assisting our veterinarians in shelter medicine duties including performing physical examinations, heartworm and FIV/FeLV tests, preparing vaccines, restraint and administering heartworm prevention, flea prevention and deworming, receiving intake appointments and educating the public in a manner that is conducive to accomplishing the organization’s goals through professional and respectful conversations with patrons. Good client and peer communications skills, ability to work within a team to accomplish daily tasks and punctuality are a must.

IndyHumane Downtown Clinic Surgery Lead

Responsible for the performance of IndyHumane’s High Volume High Quality Spay/Neuter medical team, ensures the overall health and medical care standards are being met and that procedures are safely and properly executed.  Sets “flow” for the workday, ensures work is done in the most timely and efficient manner.  Acts as a leader for other surgical technicians, facilitating further learning and providing daily direction.  Handles emergencies calmly and responsibly with the assistance of the veterinarian.  Holds team accountable, oversees, develops, and supervises the training and work of the medical team.  Serves as an example for staff by maintaining a calm, level-head under pressure.  Encourages positive attitudes amongst staff.  Expected to work, communicate, and interact professionally with all staff, volunteers, and members of the public.  Promptly responds to the needs of the veterinarians/surgeons.  Draws up, logs, and administers controlled substances in accordance with the law.  Possesses a technical aptitude in the following areas:  veterinary medicine, spay and neuter, anesthesia, safety knowledge, leadership, and a complete understanding of all Humane Society of Indianapolis policies, procedures, beliefs, and mission statement.  Responsible for assisting in Spay/Neuter surgery providing check-in/check-out, prep, recovery, and husbandry support/assistance.  Will work with veterinarian to provide wellness services for vaccination clinic patients.

IndyHumane Shelter Admissions Coordinator

The Admissions Coordinator is responsible for intake appointments, including both surrenders and transports. They are also responsible for providing patrons and the public with advice and education in support of IndyHumane’s goals and mission. The ability to maintain professionalism, excellent communication skills, ability to work with a team to accomplish daily tasks and punctuality are essential for success in this position.

Pet Adoption Counselor

Service and Adoptions Team, you must interact with patrons, coworkers, community service workers, and volunteers professionally and with exceptional Customer Service skills. Other tasks include, but are not limited to, owner surrender & animal intake, post-adopt follow up, building our retail sales, microchip investigation, and lost & found reporting. Based on job requirements, you must be able to multi-task in a manner to be able to best serve our patrons and our animals.
