IndyHumane Celebrates National Dog Day with Adventure Tails!
You can sign up to take a shelter dog out for an adventure.
Indianapolis – IndyHumane is celebrating National Dog Day by taking steps to reduce the stress that dogs experience in a shelter environment by giving them a break. Adventure Tails pairs community members with shelter dogs for a 1-5 hour field trip. Outings ideas might include a hike, a trip to get an ice cream pup cup, belly rubs, grass rolling and splashing in a baby pool, or even a tasty snack in a pet-friendly restaurant. Whether you already have a dog or aren’t ready to have one – it’s a great way to get your pet fix while helping a shelter dog!.Outings also provide valuable insight on how the dog behaves outside of a shelter environment. It’s also just a great excuse to explore Indy.
“We want these dogs to have a fun adventure out of the shelter,” said Donna Casamento, CEO of IndyHumane, “But the biggest goal is that they get adopted through greater exposure and get to spend the night in their new home!”
Along with their dog for the day, participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and an Adventure Kit which includes a water bowl, potty, bags, treats, seatbelts for dogs, an “adopt me” collar and information about the dog and how to adopt – everything they could need for a day of exploring.
Slots are limited, and advance sign up is required. You can learn more at indyhumane.org/AdventureTails.
