Mayor Greg Ballard visited the Humane Society of Indianapolis on Thursday, October 29, and proclaimed November 1 – 7 Animal Shelter Appreciation Week in Indianapolis. Marion County’s (and Indiana’s) two largest animal shelters, the Humane Society of Indianapolis and Indianapolis Animal Care and Control, along with smaller area shelters, care for tens of thousands of homeless animals every year.
Animal Shelter Appreciation Week in Indianapolis recognizes the importance of shelters working to promote the invaluable role they play in our communities and to increase public awareness of animal welfare issues, shelter services, and public safety. If you can’t adopt a dog or cat, there are plenty of other things you can do to show shelter animals you care:
Organize a holiday donation drive with friends & family, or at work, school, or church, and collect items from our Shelter Wish List.
