Mutt Strut 2020 Goes Virtual

IndyHumane today announced the decision to cancel the in-person elements of their 17th annual Mutt Strut fundraiser and is moving the event to a virtual experience. The decision was made due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, known as “the greatest spectacle in dog walking”, was scheduled to take place at Victory Field. The annual fundraiser will still take place on Sept. 26. It is the animal welfare nonprofit’s signature fundraiser.

“Mutt Strut is a large event, attracting people from all over the country. Choosing to transition to a virtual event was a difficult decision, but it’s the right thing to do,” said David Horth, IndyHumane CEO. “As the largest pet walk in the Midwest, we recognize our responsibility to help flatten the curve, and this was the best way to keep our supporters healthy and safe while still providing an opportunity to engage with the shelter. Each year Mutt Strut has helped to support a large portion of the shelter’s operational costs, so now, more than ever, we will rely on the generosity of animal lovers to help us reach our fundraising goals.”

Those previously registered for Mutt Strut 2020 will be automatically registered for the new event experience. Those interested in participating in the virtual event can register as an individual or join a team. Registrants will be eligible for giveaways, fundraising incentives, and interactive activities in the weeks leading up to the event as well as on Sept. 26. Updates on registration, event information and additional ways to support the shelter are available at www.indymuttstrut.org. More information will be made available in the coming days on the website and on IndyHumane’s social media channels.

Over the past 16 years an average of 4,000 people and their dogs have participated in the annual family-friendly event. Mutt Strut is IndyHumane’s largest fundraiser and helps the organization take in animals, provide medical care, and find cats and dogs their forever home. IndyHumane serves approximately 10,000 animals annually, from adoption services to low-cost vaccinations to life-saving surgeries. It is the only shelter in the state with a fully staffed medical team and surgery suite, allowing the nonprofit organization to care for animals that come to the shelter, as well as animals that need help from other shelters and rescue groups.
