Braden Smith and Courtney Shea-Smith will help support IndyHumane’s mission of improving animal welfare in Central Indiana.

Colts tackle Braden Smith stands 6’6” and weighs 315 lbs. A tough opponent on the field, he and his wife Courtney have a soft spot for animals off the field. IndyHumane is thrilled to announce both will serve as Ambassadors, helping shelter animals find loving homes.

Huge advocates for the shelter already, the pair are regular volunteers and have three dogs of their own – Rocket, Groot, and Drax. Last year, the Smiths took part in Giving Tuesday with IndyHumane. The Smiths will serve as co-chairs for the 2022 Mutt Strut at Victory Field on October 15th, 2022, as well as participating in “One Day of Giving” again this November.

“We’ve been a part of the Indianapolis community for 5 years and we think it’s really important to give back to causes that are near and dear to our heart,” said Braden Smith.

IndyHumane saw immediate alignment with the Smiths and their mission and focused-initiatives. Together, through passion and partnership, they aim to  improve animal welfare in central Indiana, bringing expanded visibility and support to the shelter.

“We are dog people and we believe every dog deserves a forever home,” said Courtney Smith. “That’s why we love supporting IndyHumane!”

“Volunteers are an integral part of the day-to-day operation at IndyHumane,” said Donna Casamento, IndyHumane CEO. “IndyHumane relies heavily on the community of people who contribute their time and resources to changing the lives of homeless dogs and cats. We look forward to working together with the Smiths to fulfill our mission and achieve our goals for many years to come.”

There are multiple volunteer programs that IndyHumane has in place. Expanded opportunities specific to age, time of year, corporations and groups make it easy for interested community members to get involved.
