My husband and I got a puppy from the Humane Society of Indianapolis in 2000. Fast forward 13 years and 4 kids later, she was the best dog anyone could have asked for (even according to family and friends). She passed at home with my husband and I by her side in August. It was very different without a dog, however the thought of a different four-legged family member was hard to grasp. We visited IndyHumane a few times (we knew if we did get one, this is where it would come from) and finally at the end of October, as a family, we met Anika. She was a shepherd/lab mix, about 3 months old, new to IndyHumane. We took her home the following day. The kids changed her name to Reese, as in Reese Cup- it was close to Halloween and they had candy on their mind! We just celebrated our first Christmas with her; she's growing fast and becoming a very important part of our family. We did forget about the puppy stages- chewing, potty accidents, hyper personality-but the cuddles, licks and overall love she supplies makes up for it all! Thank you for bringing us a great puppy- once again!
