I wanted to share the story of my dog Buddy. We adopted him from the Humane Society of Indianapolis almost 9 years ago. His name was Coconut at the shelter, and he is a lab/chow mix. I was in the 5th grade when we adopted him, and I was going through a hard time. Something about him when visiting the shelter drew me in, and we ended up taking him home. For a while after we took him home, we weren't sure that we could handle him. He was 7 months old, and had terrible separation anxiety. Every time we left the house, he tore everything up. EVERYTHING. We went through sets of blinds, 3 different crates (all of which he pried open, including one with the sturdiness to hold a Mastiff, leaving them useless), and he opened the door to the trash can every time we left; he was a mess. It got so bad that we went to our vet, and he prescribed anxiety medication for Buddy. After my parents gave him this medication, they left to go out for lunch. When they came back, Buddy got himself wrapped in 6-foot tall blinds, and he had to be cut out of them. We weren't sure that we'd make it. We did finally make it through the separation anxiety phase, and he is THE BEST dog. He's 10 years old now and a very healthy dog! He's very well behaved, very smart, and quick to pick up on new tricks. Thank you guys for everything you do, and we'll see you again in the future!
