New event to support Mutt Strut 2017: IndyHumane’s 500 Porch Party!

May 5th, 2017

On Saturday, April 29th, Humane Society of Indianapolis (IndyHumane) and Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials had to make the difficult decision to cancel Mutt Strut 2017 due to severe weather. In light of this cancellation, the Humane Society of Indianapolis is announcing a new event to bring participants together around The Greatest Spectacle in Racing: IndyHumane’s 500 Porch Party.

IndyHumane is fortunate and grateful to have raised approximately $230,000 in pre-event registration and fundraising for Mutt Strut 2017, but that still leaves the organization about $70,000 short of Mutt Strut’s $300,000 fundraising goal. Due to the cancellation of the event and the loss of on-site registrations and donations, the public’s support is needed now more than ever.

IndyHumane's 500 Porch Party aims to provide Mutt Strut participants and friends of pets from all over the community a chance to come together, have some fun, and help raise funds for IndyHumane! The event will be a pet-friendly festival, with food, drinks, games, and contests. Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 while enjoying the festivities. All proceeds will support the abandoned, injured, orphaned, and homeless pets IndyHumane serves from all across Central Indiana.

“We were all saddened and disappointed by the cancellation of Mutt Strut 2017, however, we are so grateful for the support of our participants, donors, and friends,” says John Aleshire, Chief Executive Officer. “We’ve heard from so many people over the course of the past week, and we’re glad we can offer this alternative event. We’re hoping this porch party will offer a fun way for our supporters to help us during this critical time.”

The event will take place at the Humane Society of Indianapolis, located at 7929 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 28th. Admission is free for Mutt Strut registrants, and other donation and ticket options are available for those who had not registered for Mutt Strut 2017. Visit IndyHumane.org/PorchParty to learn more or purchase your tickets!

IndyHumane Participating in Clear the Shelters on Saturday, August 19

August 17th, 2017

The Humane Society of Indianapolis (IndyHumane) will participate in the Clear the Shelters pet adoption event this Saturday. IndyHumane will waive adoption fees on Saturday, August 19, as part of the nationwide Clear the Shelters initiative that seeks to find new homes for homeless pets. Normal adoption procedures will apply, and information about the adoption process can be found at indyhumane.org.

“We’re looking forward to participating in this year’s Clear the Shelters initiative, and we think it’s a unique way to work together and find great homes for the many homeless animals in Central Indiana,” Steven Stolen, Chief Executive Officer at IndyHumane, says. “We’re thankful for the opportunity to participate in this national effort, and we hope it inspires our local community to take action and open their homes to animals in need.”
