Dogs Arriving from El Paso

IndyHumane has been called upon to spearhead a special animal transport on Monday to help the pet overpopulation crisis in El Paso, TX. Sixty dogs will be transported through the Humane Society of the United States Shelter Ally Project and are set to arrive at IndyHumane Monday evening, 6pm (ETA). The dogs are being transported by Humane Society of Tulsa. IndyHumane will follow standard protocol and animal care before the dogs will be made available for adoption.

Many animal shelters are facing disparities in their population. Some have too many homeless pets while others do not have enough adoptable animals to meet community demand. El Paso is desperately in need of help – and Indianapolis is responding.

“This is a classic example of shelters helping shelters in a time of animal welfare crisis,” said Steven Stolen, CEO of IndyHumane. “Our staff and volunteers are stepping up and working quickly to do what we can to help make a difference for these animals in need.”

“With an annual intake of 22,000 animals, shelters in El Paso are desperately in need of help,” said Kimberley Alboum, Shelter Outreach & Policy Engagement Director of The Humane Society of United States. “They have too many dogs and not enough people adopting them. Organizations like IndyHumane are vital to the work we are doing  through the Shelter Ally Project to make change and prevent the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals.”
