Volunteer Program
Volunteers Wanted!!
Volunteers help shelter animals by performing numerous duties that help keep animals clean, healthy and happy. These dedicated individuals work with shelter puppies, adult dogs, kittens and adult cats.
Click here to see what volunteers do to help our four-legged friends.In order to be a Humane Society of Indianapolis volunteer you should be able to commit to the following:
- At least 18 years old. Note: Those under 18 should visit the Youth Volunteer Page for fun opportunities here at the shelter.
- Able to read and write and participate independently (without any type of supervision).

Willing to commit to two (2) hours a week for a scheduled shift.
- Note: We are particularly in need of volunteers who can be here week days in between the hours of 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and on the weekends.
- Capable of committing to our volunteer program for six months.
- Able to successfully complete all training provided for your position.

Steps to becoming a HSI Volunteer:
- Attend 1 hour Volunteer Information Session.
- Note: These Information Sessions provide an important overview of our organization, while also giving specific information on our volunteer programs, training classes, and additional volunteer requirements
- Attendance is by reservation only. Those attending the Information Session are not automatically accepted into the program. We suggest that volunteers utilize the session to gather information to assist in deciding on where to volunteer.
- Successfully complete 4 hour Basic Volunteer Training course.
- Successfully complete 2 hour training for volunteer position.
