Steps to Join our Parent & Me Days at IndyHumane Program
Attendance at all steps of training is required for the child and adult participating in this program.
1. Attend a Parent & Me Volunteer Information Session
You will learn facts and important information about IndyHumane. You will also learn about our Shelter Volunteer Program Opportunities and complete a Shelter Volunteer Application if you are interested in continuing on with training.
Parent & Me Info Sessions are held the 3rd Saturday from 11-12pm of the following months: February, May, August and November. You may sign up for an info session here. You may also leave the requested information at 317-872-5650 x106. You will be contacted via email or phone the week of the session with more details. If you are unable to attend a Parent & Me Volunteer Info Session, please send an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for other options.
2. Complete Basic Training
You will receive a tour of IndyHumane. You will also receive detailed information about the workings of our shelter, disease prevention, and customer service.
3. Complete a Shadow Day
You will spend a shift with an experienced Volunteer or Staff Member in the area you are interested in donating time. This will help us determine if you are volunteering in the area best suited for you and our needs can be met.
4. Complete an Intro to Shelter Canines/Felines Course
All potential Volunteers who will interact with dogs/cats are required to complete this course. You will learn the proper way to interact with shelter dogs/cats, learn basic handling techniques, and learn how to deal with problem situations.
Training is set up so that you may complete all steps within 1 month. Once you have completed these steps, you'll be an IndyHumane Volunteer and can start donating time and love to the animals in our shelter.
