Change the Face of Animal Welfare in Indianapolis

November 6th, 2014

Our vision at IndyHumane is that all Central Indiana animals are treated with dignity and respect and live free from cruelty, harm and neglect. We work every day to help end animal homelessness, neglect and abandonment.

To help us accomplish these goals, we hold an annual fundraising breakfast called Face of Love. This event raises as much as 5% of our annual operating budget. We wanted to thank those who attended this year as well as the generous sponsors who helped make this event possible.

Since the Deer Zink Events Pavilion at the Indianapolis Museum of Art could not hold all of IndyHumane’s friends, we wanted to make sure you were not left out. So we’re sending you the video from this morning’s event.

Humane Society of Indianapolis Eliminates Debt

October 29th, 2014

Financial stewardship and donor support key in eliminating debt

Thanks to financial stewardship, donor support, organizational leadership, and hard work, the Humane Society of Indianapolis has now eliminated all debt. The organization’s debt began approximately 12 years ago, and reached more than $3.1 million by the end of 2008. With guidance from the board of directors, new CEO John Aleshire was hired in 2008 with the mandate of bringing the organization back into the black and stabilizing the mission and operations of the shelter.

“Over the years, we’ve been frugal and very intentional in freeing ourselves from this debt,” Chief Executive Officer John Aleshire says. “As soon as we could after I started, we brought in a Chief Financial Officer and oriented our senior leadership and board of directors around making frugal, efficient decisions that would best serve our animals while allowing us to pay off this huge hindrance to our mission.”

IndyHumane’s debt has been paid down gradually over the past five years, and Aleshire says the full and passionate support of donors and the community have been the driving force in making this day a reality.
