Train your dog in Indy’s most scenic spots

Posted 3:15 pm, Thu. 9/02/2010

IndyHumane Reality dog obedience training on the Monon in Broad Ripple, Indianapolis, IndianaReality Class is a great opportunity to challenge your dog to new sights, sounds, and smells in eight unique locations throughout the Indianapolis area. The next session starts Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 2pm.

IndyHumane’s Canine Training School Reality Class invites all dogs and their people to learn in fun, novel environments. The class is especially beneficial for those dogs who may have fear-related issues acted out in either an initiated aggressive behavior (low-level growl, stiff body language, excessive barking, etc.) toward other dogs or by being shy and reactive (retreat steps, lip curl, etc.) when encountering other dogs.

We’ll meet in new locations, walk with your dog at a distance that respects the space boundaries that many fearful dogs require, and provide dogs with different, sights, sounds, smells, and touches, providing a positive “sensory bombardment.”

You and your dog will enjoy learning on the Indianapolis Canal Walk downtown, on the Monon Trail, in downtown Broad Ripple, at Holliday Park, and at the IMA 100 Acres nature and art park, just to name a few.

IndyHumane Donates to Methodist Hospital’s Gotcha Covered Program

Posted 9:13 am, Tue. 8/31/2010

The Humane Society of Indianapolis recently donated clothing to Methodist Hospital’s Gotcha Covered program, which provides clothing to emergency room and trauma victims whose clothing has been ruined or stained.

IndyHumane Board Member Jim Luce, who is program manager of Palliative Care Services at Clarian, was aware that Gotcha Covered supplies were getting low and that IndyHumane had 26 boxes of Mutt Strut T-shirts from this year’s rainy spring event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. IndyHumane staff was pleased to deliver the shirts and provide them to another organization in need.

Featured Pets: Max the Basset Hound Mix and Katie the Cat

Posted 1:54 pm, Mon. 8/23/2010

I’m Max, a three-year-old Basset Hound mix. I have a unique, very cute look and already know many commands including “sit” and “stay.” The hound in me makes it hard to be around cats, but I get along great with other dogs and would enjoy trips to the dog park. If you’re looking for a buddy who knows his stuff and is already housetrained, I may be the one for you!

Looking for a sweet and calm feline friend? Visit me! I am four years old, spayed, and weigh about nine pounds. I am very friendly with children and other cats. I enjoy lounging and would be the perfect lap cat for someone looking for a cuddle buddy. If you need a friend who will appreciate a nice belly rub and some love, come see me.

today!
