Congratulations to Joey, the Mutt Strut 2011 Poster Pooch!
Posted Mon. 7/12/2010
Congratulations to Joey, the 5-year-old Pit Bull who will be the face of Mutt Strut 2011, the day the Speedway goes to the dogs!
Joey won the second-annual Mutt Strut Poster Pooch Contest by raising the most votes and donations from his fans. He’ll represent the greatest spectacle in dog walking, Mutt Strut at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and will be featured on posters, t-shirts, and the first-ever Mutt Strut Pin-Up Pooches calendar along with the other top 12 dogs.
Our resources are stretched to the limit. Will you help?
Posted Wed. 7/07/2010
We’ve reached the limit of the number of animals we can care for with our current financial and staffing resources. Will you be an angel and help us care for more than 500 kittens, puppies and mature cats and dogs?
It’s easy for you to help!
- Lend your financial support: sponsor an animal’s care, donate online or call the Humane Society of Indianapolis at 317.872.5650 x125.
- Donate items from our animals’ Wish List.
- Use the Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic at our shelter.
- Have $5? Vote for the cutest dog in the Mutt Strut Poster Pooch Contest!
And don’t forget: until Friday, July 9th, you can adopt any dog or cat 4 years and up for just $17.76.

Sponsored Cats and Dogs
These animals came to us with special needs and received financial help from kind people like yourself who donated to provide the special care they need before finding their forever families.
If you'd like to be an angel for an animal, please see our Adoptable Dogs or Adoptable Cats pages - animals in need of sponsorship are not available for adoption, but will have special photos and instructions on how you can help! If you know who you'd like to sponsor, visit our Medical Sponsorship page to donate and save an animal.
Max the Dog: Demodex
Thank you Kristen M! Max needed sponsorship for a minor skin condition called demodex. With time and TLC, this is a very treatable condition. Max was found stray in a park by some good Samaritans and is now at home with a new family!
Maverick the Dog: Broken Leg
Crystal H. sponsored this puppy to help him heal from a broken leg. Our vets decided to first try splinting his leg in hopes that the fracture can heal and we can save his leg. Thanks, Crystal!
Tufty the Cat: Entropion Eye Surgery
Carol G. donated a medical sponsorship so Tufty could have entropion eye surgery. This is a painful condition where the animal’s eyelashes poke down into the animal’s eye, and it can eventually cause corneal ulcers. The surgery will permanently repair the flaw and help save Tufty’s vision. On behalf of Tufty the cat, thank you for your kindness, Carol!
