The Teen Summer Program gives young students ages 14-17 years the opportunity to give their time and love to the homeless animals at the Humane Society of Indianapolis. Being a part of this program teaches young people about the important role IndyHumane plays in our community. It also gives students a bonding experience with animals who need love and attention and with others their age that have a similar interest in animals and their wellbeing.
During summer sessions, students work together to complete shelter tasks such as socializing dogs and cats. Enrichment projects are incorporated to make this opportunity beneficial for the animals being housed at IndyHumane. Teens also work closely with Behavior Team Members to teach dogs basic manners like sitting, walking on a leash, and quiet in the kennels. All of these manners make dogs more appealing to potential adopters.
All summer 2016 programs have concluded.
2017 Teen Summer Program information will be posted later this year. Click here if you would like to be notified when 2017 Teen Summer Program information is posted, and when registration is open.
Please note that registration is typically open starting in February each year. Once registration is open, spots fill very quickly, so remember to sign up fast!
Thanks, and hope to see you next year!
