HUMANE SOCIETY OF INDIANAPOLIS ADOPTS NEW GUIDING PRINCIPLES
2009-05-12
The Humane Society of Indianapolis (HSI) has adopted new vision and mission statements in order to better serve the people and animals of Marion County.
HSI's board of directors and senior management recently undertook a planning process in order to determine key strategic initiatives to strive for in the next three years. During the process, a new vision and revised mission statement were developed in order to better reflect HSI's goals and services. The statements will provide a framework to help guide board and staff when making key decisions in order to best benefit the community.
HSI's new vision is that "all central Indiana animals are treated with dignity and respect and live free from cruelty, harm and neglect." In order to achieve this vision, the organization's new mission is as follows:
"The Humane Society of Indianapolis is the leading voice for the welfare of animals and improving their quality of life. HSI is the first choice in providing direct services for shelter cats and dogs, including adoption, foster home placement, behavior training, appropriate medical care, and affordable spay/neuter services. As the voice for the animals, HSI brings together like-minded animal-focused individuals and groups to educate the public about animal welfare issues and concerns. For over 100 years, it's all about the animals."
HSI now operates under the values of compassion, respect, collaboration, integrity, and fiscal responsibility. It aims to place 5,000 cats and dogs with responsible families in 2009, and is hoping to find homes for 500 pets this month through its "500 Pets of May" promotion.
