Microchipping Event and “To the Rescue” Book Signing – Saturday, December 5

On Saturday, December 5, 2009, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., join us for our next microchipping day to benefit both your pet and Gleaners Food Bank.

To the Rescue dogAnd until 1 p.m., get your copy of “To the Rescue: Found Dogs with a Mission” pawtographed by Batman, certified therapy greyhound, and his human, Billie. Both are featured in the book, which makes a great holiday gift and helps our shelter animals with every copy you buy at the Humane Society of Indianapolis.

Bring your dog or cat and 5 or more non-perishable food items for a free microchip. The food will be donated to Gleaners Food Bank http://www.gleaners.org/, and your pet will receive permanent microchip identification, which will help you be reunited in case they become lost or stolen. Without a food donation that day, microchips will be $10 (half the normal price.)

From 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., meet Billie Peters and her certified therapy greyhound, Batman. Billie and Batman will “pawtograph” copies of a terrific book they’re featured in, “To the Rescue: Found Dogs with a Mission.” Through touching stories and photographs, the book celebrates the lives of dogs (and one cat) who were rescued from shelters and went on to become not just pets, but therapy, service, and search-and-rescue dogs. Proceeds from the $19.95 book support animals at the Humane Society of Indianapolis. “To the Rescue” makes a great holiday gift for your animal-loving friends and family!

UPDATE: 137 cats and dogs were microchipped at the event, and Billie and Batman pawtographed dozens of copies of “To the Rescue”! Thank you to everyone for coming to the event, donating to Gleaners, and especially to our amazing volunteers who made it possible.
