Internship Opportunities

Social Media & Marketing Intern

The Humane Society of Indianapolis (IndyHumane) is searching for a Marketing & Social Media Intern. The Marketing & Social Media Intern will manage IndyHumane’s social media accounts under the supervision of the Brand & Content Manager, while also supporting the marketing and development staff on various projects that may include editing and updating marketing materials, website updates, research, and event preparation and facilitation. 

Qualifications:

  • Current college student
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred
  • 15-20 hours per week availability
  • Ability to work occasional evening or weekend events if necessary

General responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Post content and answer questions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat
  • Assisting the Marketing Staff in the preparation and execution of marketing materials and projects
  • Coordination of information for marketing and communications materials
  • Possible work in graphic design, writing, public relations, website maintenance
  • Maintenance of marketing department data
  • Assist with event coordination to ensure goals and timelines are met
  • Develop a working knowledge of IndyHumane’s operation, mission, and strategic plan and represent the organization to the community
  • Communicate clearly with staff, donors, sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and event guests
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Skills desired:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with individuals within and outside of the organization
  • Superior written and oral communication skills; strong proofreading skills
  • Detail-oriented: accuracy and attention to details
  • Familiarity with social media best practices
  • Project management proficiency: flexibility, initiative, and effective task management
  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively as a member of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus

This position is unpaid. Hours are flexible, and may include occasional evening or weekend events.

Special Events Intern

The intern will be supporting the Special Events Manager in preparation for IndyHumane’s fundraising and community-focused events. The internship will last approximately from August/early September until early December.

Successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Flexibility and effective task management
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people
  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively as a member of the team
  • Excellent written, oral, and analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft computer applications (Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook etc.)
  • Willingness to learn additional applications as needed (Salesforce, TeamRaiser, etc.)
  • Sensitivity to confidential information
  • Commitment to the mission of the Humane Society of Indianapolis
  • High energy level and takes initiative in a fast-paced environment

Duties include:

  • Assist with event coordination to ensure goals and timelines are met. (Some lifting will be required.)
  • Communicate clearly with staff, donors, sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and event guests.
  • Manage database information and ensure its accuracy.
  • Write event promotional pieces, sponsor/vendor and volunteer communications, website updates, and newsletter articles.
  • Develop a working knowledge of HSI’s operation, mission, and strategic plan and represent the organization to the community.
  • Provide support as needed for gift entry, research, and gift acknowledgment activities.
  • Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned.

Other details:
Internship is approximately 15-20 hours per week. The hours are flexible, and will include occasional evening or weekend meetings. The position is unpaid.

Retail Management Intern

The intern will be supporting the Director of Customer Experience with retail sales in the adoption lobby, customer service and general patron experience. The internship will last approximately from August- December.

  • High energy level and takes initiative in a fast-paced environment

Duties include:

  • Assist with inventory to ensure goals and timelines are met. (Some lifting will be required.)
  • Assist with sales and service during business hours
  • Communicate clearly with staff, donors, vendors, volunteers, and shelter patrons.
  • Manage daily sales and KPI.
  • Develop a working knowledge of HSI’s operation, mission, and strategic plan and represent the organization to the community.
  • Assist in the management of team focus on sales and sales goals.
  • Create special sales days and other initiatives within department to drive sales from idea to implementation. 
  • Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned.

Other details:
Internship is approximately 15-20 hours per week. The hours are flexible with a focus on Saturday and Sunday. The position is unpaid.

Mobile Adoptions Intern

The intern will be supporting the PAW Coordinator and Director of Customer Experience in preparation for IndyHumane’s Mobile Adoption, cuddle time, and educational events within the community. The internship will last approximately from August until late November.

  • Excellent written, oral, and analytical skills

  • Willingness to learn additional applications as needed (PetPoint, Google Calendar, Square, etc.)
  • Sensitivity to confidential information
  • Commitment to the mission of the Humane Society of Indianapolis
  • High energy level and takes initiative in a fast-paced environment

Duties include:

  • Assist with event coordination to ensure goals and timelines are met. 
  • Load/Unload, Set-up/Tear-down of events.
  • Communicate clearly with staff, donors, sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and event patrons.
  • Manage database information and ensure its accuracy..
  • Develop a working knowledge of HSI’s operation, mission, and strategic plan and represent the organization to the community.
  • Provide support and creativity for events and manage events as needed.
  • Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned.

Other details:
Internship is approximately 15-20 hours per week. The hours are dependent on events and office time, and will include occasional evening or weekend meetings. The position is unpaid.
