Part-Time Vaccine Clinic Veterinarian

As a member of our highly skilled vaccine clinic team, the DVM is responsible for performing PEs, drawing blood for heartworm and FeLV tests, administering vaccines, prescribing heartworm prevention, flea prevention and deworming. Great client communications skills, a positive attitude, and a desire to improve the lives of pets are a must.

Summary of essential job functions:

  • Provide high-quality preventative care to vaccine clinic patients.
  • Speak to patrons regarding the importance of spay & neuter, microchipping, vaccinations, heartworm & flea preventative, basic pet care, positive behavior modification, etc.
  • Recognize the impact of providing low-cost veterinary care in our community and further IndyHumane's mission by representing IndyHumane appropriately.
  • As time permits, assist in the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of shelter animals—performing exams & diagnostics, initiating treatment, ordering medications, taking radiographs, etc. 
  • Work, communicate, and interact professionally with all staff members and clients as part of a fast-paced and highly-efficient clinic team.
  • Demonstrate low-stress animal handling skills.
  • Communicate and follow safety and hazard procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with management, medical, animal care, customer service and volunteer staff.

Other details:

Hours are Friday 1:00pm-7:00pm and Saturday 11:00am-6:00pm at the shelter campus, located at 7929 North Michigan Road.

Part-Time Adoption Counselor / Customer Service Representative

Now seeking people-lovers for a position as an Adoption Counselor at IndyHumane!

As an Adoption Counselor and a member of the customer experience team, you will:

  • Match perspective pet owners with adoptable pets based on the policies, procedures, beliefs, and mission of the organization
  • Smile! 
  • Answer questions regarding pet care, surrendering a pet, lost & found pets, sick & injured animals, etc.
  • Educate patrons about retail items, behavior training, declawing, and much more
  • Promote positive outcomes, forever homes, and happy tails!

Responsibilities:

  • Consult with potential adopters, answer questions, provide education
  • Patiently resolve conflict, maintaining a positive attitude at all times
  • Maintain a high-level of accuracy and record keeping, including money handling
  • Respond to phone calls, emails, and other inquiries
  • Interact professionally with patrons, donors, volunteers, and other staff

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent (some post-high school education is preferred)
  • Customer service experience required, must love people!
  • Computer & money-handling skills
  • Interest & heart for Animal Welfare
  • Conflict resolution skills, calm under pressure, and positive attitude a must
  • Bi-lingual/Spanish language skills a preferred

Pay:

Position is hourly and includes pet wellness benefits and other discounts! Position is currently part-time with many opportunities for advancement.

Schedule:

Must have weekend availability, Friday-Sunday are peak adoption times.

Job summary:

Responsible for day-to-day care and treatment of cats that are surrendered to the shelter; will perform duties pertaining to kennel maintenance, custodial responsibilities, and maintaining a disease-free environment. Interacts with the public, fellow staff, community service, and volunteers professionally and with exceptional customer service. Is expected to work safely and consistently with Humane Society of Indianapolis’ policies, procedures, beliefs and mission statement.

Summary of essential job functions:

  • Cat care in both cages and free-roaming spaces.
  • Daily maintenance and cleaning.
  • Furnish appropriate amounts of food to animals daily.
  • Care for animals as appropriate to their breed and species.
  • Pay attention to kennel signs regarding special care instructions.
  • Report animal observations to supervisor or medical/behavior staff.
  • Ensure that animals have appropriate bedding daily.
  • Perform custodial duties where and when required.
  • Follow standardized processes in use of equipment and cleaning materials/chemicals.
  • Consistency in following standard operating procedures.
  • Appropriate and humane animal handling
  • Follow safety and hazard procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements:

  • Must be cat-savvy.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to read sufficiently to understand chemical warning labels and kennel cards
  • Must have good attention to detail.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills.

Abilities required:

Must be able to lift 50lbs.

  • Report animal observations to supervisor or medical/behavior staff
  • Ensure that animals have appropriate bedding daily
  • Perform custodial duties where and when required

As a member of our highly skilled Veterinary team, the DVM is responsible for providing high-quality medicine to both shelter animals and those brought into our clinics.  This is a unique opportunity to have a lot of variety in your day-to-day work as a Veterinarian.   • Assist in the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of shelter animals—performing exams & diagnostics, initiating treatment, ordering medications, taking radiographs, etc. 
  • Serve as a second surgeon in our spay/neuter clinics providing high-quality sterilization procedures.
  • Work, communicate, and interact professionally with all staff members and clients as part of a fast-paced and highly-efficient clinic team.
  • Demonstrate low-stress animal handling skills.
  • Communicate and follow safety and hazard procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with management, medical, animal care, customer service and volunteer staff.

Other details:

Hours are Tuesday in our shelter and shelter clinic (9-7), Wednesday in our westside clinic (10-6), Thursday in our spay/neuter clinic (8-4), and Saturday in our westside clinic (10-6).
